Open the Microsoft Store so you can find and install apps, games and much more

Thumbnail Preview

Hover over any minimized or pinned programs on your taskbar to get a thumbnail preview of that window, makes it easier to switch between applications and choose the windows you want active

Desktop

The desktop area which can contain shortcuts to your installed apps, or files and folders

Taskbar Corner

Shows icons for common functions such as volume, network, pen and virtual keyboard along with any other icons you have chosen to show here e.g. OneDrive, Antivirus etc

Taskbar Corner Overflow

Icons which are not chosen to be shown in the Taskbar Corner will appear in the Overflow accessible by clicking the up arrow

Date / Time

Shows date and time and when clicked displays monthly calendar

Notifications

Icon shows number of unread notifications and when clicked shows notifications panel - more details below

Show desktop

Click here to minimize all open windows and show the desktop

 

Taskbar Settings

 

You can access the Taskbar Settings by right clicking anywhere on the Taskbar and choosing it from the menu which appears.

Choose which buttons appear on the Taskbar e.g. Search, Task view, Widgets and Chat

Taskbar corner Icons

 

Choose which icons appear in the corner of your taskbar e.g. Pen menu and Touch keyboard

Choose which additional icons you wish to show in the corner (A), the rest will appear in the overflow (B)

Taskbar behaviours

 

Change Taskbar behaviours:-

 

Taskbar Alignment - change location of Start Menu button and taskbar icons from centre to left

Choose whether to automatically hide the taskbar

Show badges such as unread email count on taskbar apps

Choose whether to show taskbar on all desktops if using multiple monitors

Enable/disable show desktop

 

 

 

Notifications

 

New notifications pop-up down the bottom right hand corner, they are shown here for 5 seconds before disappearing.

The number of unread notifications is indicated as shown below.

When you click these notifications a panel will be shown with more details of any current notifications.

Click the X to close the current notification.

 

You can click the . . . icon to show the below context menu where you can choose to turn of all notifications for specific event / app, make future alerts high priority, or open the main notifications page in Settings to make further changes.

Touch Control

 

Below are for touch screen enabled devices and can also be used on some laptops with touchpads which support gestures:-

 

Swipe in from the right to open Notifications.
